JVS has been looking for a kinder alternative to high street eggs. In a normal system, whether battery or free-range or organic, egg-laying hens are generally gassed or killed by other means at between 68 and 72 weeks. They have a life expectancy of 5 years or more. Male chicks are killed very soon after they hatch, either gassed / suffocated / crushed in a grinder.
We have sourced delicious organic eggs from Hen Nation whose model of production enables each hen to live out its full natural life. They live happy, traditional, free-range lives – free to graze grass and forage in traditional hay meadows in their North Yorkshire home. No hens or chicks are slaughtered.
This has enabled us to create a community collection point for cruelty-free eggs at our HQ in Golders Green. One box of eggs a week saves the life of one hen. Click here to read more about where these eggs come from.
