What we do

JVS is an international charity dedicated to promoting a kinder world, without killing animals for food.

We spread awareness of the benefits of rejecting cruelty to animals and the extension of this to an improved society where mankind is not cruel to fellow beings, both human and animals. These sentiments are expressed in the Torah, which teaches kindness to all sentient creatures and in the Talmud where it is stated that “the earth is the L-rd’s” and that we are to be partners with G-d in preserving the world.

JVS:

– Hosts special events including talks, workshops, cookery demonstrations and socials.

– Publishes a quarterly 40-page magazine, The Jewish Vegetarian. A selection of archived magazines are available for free download from this site

– Since October 2016 has housed Big Green Jewish, the UK Jewish community’ climate change campaign.

– Runs a free community library.

– Is an active member of the Jewish Social Action Forum and the Animal Interfaith Alliance
