A new £12 million investment by the government via EPSRC will back the Cellular Agriculture Manufacturing Hub (CARMA), based at the University of Bath. The initiative will advance research into cultivated meat and precision fermentation to scale sustainable proteins without slaughter. Teams including Hoxton Farms and Quest Meat will explore ways to produce ethical meat alternatives with lower carbon footprints. Campaigners say the project marks a major step for British innovation in animal‑free protein and climate smart food futures
