The London School of Economics (LSE) is opening a new department for animal sentience in the Autumn of 2025. Animal sentience is the capacity for emotion and physical pleasure or pain. We are sentient and so are most other animals. This department will contribute to our understanding of sentience and promote animal welfare and rights.
