Debla are delicious syrup-soaked pastries that are easy to make.
2 cups flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp oil
~¾ cup water
1 cup sugar (for syrup)
½ cup water (for syrup)
1 tsp lemon juice
Mix flour, sugar, and oil in a bowl.
Add water gradually and knead the dough until smooth.
Roll the dough very thin and cut into strips.
Twist the strips loosely.
Deep fry the twisted strips in hot oil until golden.
Combine sugar, water, and lemon juice in a pan for the syrup.
Simmer syrup for 5 minutes.
Dip the fried pastries in syrup and allow to cool.
