In the last few days an online campaign to raise money for a new 10-part radio series on vegetarianism was launched by independent broadcaster Ian McDonald.

A BBC-trained radio producer, Ian is hoping to raise a total of £3,000 to enable him to tell the fascinating story of the global history of vegetarianism. Within the first 48 hours, Ian already reached a third of his fundraising target.

Sponsorship has come in thick and fast from bloggers as far afield as the USA, proving that there is “worldwide interest in this story being told”. You can find out more about his campaign and lend your support by clicking here. This is a fantastic to support independent journalism and help raise awareness of vegetarianism.

“I want to bring these stories of compassion to life vividly, using actors, archive, and location recording, so that people who are curious about our legacy of compassion will still be turning to it in ten or twenty years.”

Ian would like to be able to take listeners on a journey to:

– Manchester’s Victorian vegetarian church

– The London street where the word “vegan” was coined

– The Indian countryside where iron age philosophers developed Ahimsa

– Mysore, India, where western missionaries adopted vegetarianism to fit in and preach

Ian currently produces and presents The Vegan Option, uncovering stories, science and analysis from vegan perspectives. His show is broadcast weekly to a million Londoners on Resonance 104.4FM.
